In Oklahoma a parent earning $4,000 a month gross, with the other parent at $2,000, owes about $703 a month for two children under the schedule of 43 O.S. § 119, before child care and medical support. The schedule is read on combined gross income in $50 rows, each row applying from its amount up, and it has not been rewritten since June 6, 2000. Time with the paying parent changes nothing until 121 overnights a year. From that night the combined amount is multiplied by 2, then 1.75 from 132 nights and 1.5 from 144, and each parent's share is weighted by the other parent's time: at 144 nights the same parent pays $430. A parent with more than 205 overnights never pays support, and the adjusted figure can never exceed the unadjusted one.

Three multipliers, then a hard stop at 205

Section 118E of Title 43 is built in steps. Below 121 overnights, nothing. Between 121 and 131 the combined amount doubles before being split, because two homes each carry rent, food and transport; the factor falls to 1.75 up to 143 nights and to 1.5 from 144 on. Each parent's slice of the multiplied amount is then multiplied by the share of the year the children spend with the other parent, and the two results are offset. The adjustment is presumptive but not automatic: a court may refuse it when the extra nights do not create extra spending.

120$703
121$703
131$649
132$563
143$507
144$430
182$266

For this family the first band does nothing: doubling the amount and weighting it by time gives more than the unadjusted $703, and the statute caps the result at the unadjusted figure. The savings arrive when the multiplier drops. At 132 nights the order falls to $563, at 144 to $430. The steps are uneven, so a parenting plan a few nights below a band edge can cost real money every month. Section 118E also treats exercising fewer nights than ordered as a material change, and the court can turn the support underpaid into a judgment.

An old schedule with an odd cell

The table runs from a first line of $50 for any number of children to $15,000 of combined income, where two children cost $1,961. Above that the court adds an amount of its own choosing to the $15,000 figure, and the calculator stops at the top line. Very low incomes all land on the floor: $400 and $200 with three children give $33 a month for the paying parent.

Reading the statute line by line turns up two cells that break the pattern. At $11,300 the three-child column shows $1,898, below the $1,984 printed for $11,250 and far from the $1,993 of $11,350. The Oklahoma Human Services spreadsheet computes about $1,989 for that cell, which suggests a transposed digit. The calculator copies the statute as published; a family in that income band may want the worksheet checked.

How the amount is set. The schedule heading reads 'If Combined Gross Monthly Income is equal to or above' each row amount (43 O.S. § 119(A)), so the row at or below the income applies. Rows run $650 to $15,000 in $50 steps, preceded by a $50 row. source

Income. Gross income = earned and passive income from any source (43 O.S. § 118B); self-employment income is net of ordinary and reasonable expenses with a 7.65% deduction. Adjusted gross income adds Social Security paid to the child on the parent's account and deducts support alimony actually paid in a prior case and the deduction for other qualified children (43 O.S. § 118A(1), § 118C). Imputed income may be minimum wage for not less than 25 hours per week (43 O.S. § 118B).

Above the table. Above $15,000 combined gross monthly income: the amount for $15,000 plus an additional amount determined by the court (43 O.S. § 119(B)). More than six children: amount for six plus an amount set by the court (43 O.S. § 119(C)).

Parenting time. Parenting time adjustment when the noncustodial parent has at least 121 overnights a year (43 O.S. § 118E(A)(1)). The combined base obligation is multiplied by 2 (121-131 overnights), 1.75 (132-143) or 1.5 (144 or more), split by income shares, each share multiplied by the other parent's percentage of overnights (overnights/365) and offset; the higher owes the difference (§ 118E(D)(2)-(5)). No support is payable by a parent with more than 205 overnights, and the result may not exceed the unadjusted amount (§ 118E(D)(5)). The adjustment is presumptive, not mandatory (§ 118E(C)).

Child care and health care. Actual annualized child care costs for employment, job search or school are allocated in the same proportion as base support and added to the order (43 O.S. § 118G). Health coverage is reasonable in cost if the child's pro rata premium does not exceed 5% of the responsible parent's gross income; cash medical support may not exceed the lesser of the pro rata share of actual medical expenses or 5% of the obligor's gross monthly income (43 O.S. § 118F(D) and the cash medical provision of § 118F). Child care and medical support are added to base support (43 O.S. §§ 118F, 118G); transportation costs between homes may be divided by income (43 O.S. § 118D(G)).

Low incomes. No separate self-support reserve in the statute; the schedule's first row sets $50 per month for any number of children below $650 combined income (43 O.S. § 119(A)). A deviation may not seriously impair the obligee's ability to provide basic necessities for the children (43 O.S. § 118H(A)).

When support ends. Support runs until 18; a child regularly enrolled and attending high school full time is supported until graduation or age 20, whichever comes first, with no further order needed (43 O.S. § 112(E)). Support for an adult disabled child is possible under 43 O.S. § 112.1A. source

The state also runs its own official child support calculator; use it, or the court's worksheet, for a filing.

Questions people ask

How many overnights trigger the Oklahoma parenting time adjustment?

121 overnights a year, or an average of 121 across all the children when time differs by child. Under 43 O.S. § 118E the combined schedule amount is then multiplied by 2, 1.75 or 1.5 depending on the band, split by income and weighted by time. The adjustment is presumptive, so the court can deny it if the extra time does not raise the parent's spending.

Can an Oklahoma parent with half the time still pay child support?

Yes, when incomes differ. With equal time the multiplied amount is split by income and offset, so the higher earner usually pays something. What the statute rules out is support paid by a parent who has more than 205 overnights a year, and any adjusted order above the amount the parent would owe without the adjustment.

What happens above $15,000 of combined income in Oklahoma?

43 O.S. § 119(B) takes the amount for $15,000, which is $1,372 for one child and $1,961 for two, and lets the court add an amount it decides. There is no formula for the excess. More than six children works the same way: the six-child figure plus an amount set by the court.

Does Oklahoma child support use gross income?

Yes. Both parents' gross incomes from all sources are added, after small adjustments: Social Security paid to the child on a parent's account is added, and support alimony actually paid in an earlier case and a deduction for other children the parent supports are subtracted. Self-employment income is reduced by ordinary expenses and a 7.65% deduction.
